What I aspire for Egypt…

“A well-informed mind is the best security against the contagion of folly and of vice. The vacant mind is ever on the watch for relief, and ready to plunge into error, to escape from the languor of idleness” Ann Radcliffe (1764 - 1823), The Mysteries of Udolpho, 1764

Egypt has been living so many memorable moments since the revolution, and will witness a lot in the coming years. Many people have had their moments of disappointment while others lived through glory. But the fact that we should all admit is that we have a new President whether we like it or not.

Many people have their doubts about the future since the newly elected President is affiliated to the Muslim Brothers, I can not be assuring that life won’t change in Egypt as we have always known it, but what I am sure of is that no one can change the Egyptian society if Egyptians themselves don’t want to.

Egyptians have suffered a lot through out history with dictators, they have suffered poverty and illiteracy and in-spite of all that, many Egyptians have proved themselves world wide as great scientists, thinkers and writers... But unfortunately they are few, though I am sure that we have more to offer. Our most important asset in this country is its human capital -- The most populated country in the Middle East.

What I aspire for the coming years is good education for all, and I mean ALL. It is so unfortunate that only the people who can afford a good education can have one. It’s demanding on many people, even those with good incomes. We need education that promotes thinking and research; we need good teachers and role models for those of us who were not fortunate enough to have this. We need to instill morals and self respect. There are so many examples in the world that Egypt can benefit from. Street children are a dormant bomb that might explode at any time. I think that the social responsibility of companies and factories is to educate their illiterate and unprivileged staff, in my opinion a law should be issued in this respect. Soldiers in the military who are undertaking their military service should be obliged to learn. Even prisoners should be educated. Brazil has recently issued a law that prisoners can reduce their sentence by reading books, each book would reduce 4 days.. Can anyone envision Egypt with out illiteracy? We need people who believe that a dream can be accomplished.

“The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.” Diogenes Laertius

So are we Egyptians willing to cooperate with the New President and government? I know so many people who are not. However I think we should, and if we don’t like what we are getting we can topple them. The constitution should be our main goal now; we need a Constitution that provides all Egyptians with their different beliefs - equal rights, to provide us with balance of power.

Dear Egyptians please have faith no matter what happens, I know you deserve the best living conditions, but you have to work hard for that. I know that it is easier said than done. Nevertheless, YOU can do the impossible. Nothing should stop or hinder our progress as long as we are determined to progress.
