Ahmed Ezz

Everlastingly Charming
Perhaps the fact that Ahmed Ezz was born on the same date as the Egyptian revolution ‘July 23’, explains the rationale for his determination. This stunning ‘Leo’ is one of those rare well-grounded actors, who isn’t only a great talent, but also a young man with morality. Ezz experienced several journeys prior to devoting himself to his lifelong dream of becoming an actor. Ahmed Ezz has commendably established himself , and proven over the years that he has a lot of aptitude to back his attractive looks and without a doubt and on his own words there is still more to come….

Tell us about your last experience with the advertisements, as it was a real success?
Well thanks God for the success the campaign achieved, I am overjoyed about this experience. Mohamed El saady called me about the universal product and that they want me to be with them for this Ramadan campaign. At the beginning I was really scared and don’t know if i will be beneficial to the product and vice versa, but then we thought about this new idea of which we make the advertisement like a short drama series. We started working on it two months before the shooting, and we kept thinking and creating new ideas until few days before finishing shooting. We shoot the advertisement at Beirut with DOP Ahmed Morsy whom I worked with before at my last movie El 7afla. He is so good and professional. Also the director Ahmed Alaa who directed my movie “badel faqad” is extremely creative, into details, and professional director. All the models are not Egyptians and we got them from their real countries. The team was so good and cooperative and that truly contributed in the success of the campaign.

Speaking of Ramadan, which series did u watch?
Unfortunately I was shooting as I told you during most of Ramadan for long hours so I couldn’t follow most of the series except “El Araf” on and off, and of course it is a great series and I will start watching most of the series now on the repeat.

Are you planning to do something for next Ramadan?
I really hope so and planning to prepare for something for next Ramadan, but still waiting for a good story.

Which of your roles would you regard as a defining moment within your career?
I still have a lot to do. I feel that I didn’t do anything yet, but there are many transitional phases in my career; Malak Ro7y, Sana Oula Nasb, Malaky Eskenderia, El Shaba7, El Masla7a and others. I always try to get the best out of me and not to repeat myself, I like to work with successful and creative team because we all add to each other. So I can’t tell you one precise role, as I am still looking for it. I am dreaming about a historical role, I adore historical movies and series and really wish to be part of these huge productions one day. Historical works are rich and must contain some factors as rich decorations, new and different shooting scenes and last but not least good actors. I like to watch historical works then comedy and then action movies. I love to act and love good actors like for example the great Ahmed Zaki, he was a genius actor. I want people to see me as a good actor, to remember me by good roles and how I acted in this movie and excelled in other one, that’s what I aspire and aim for.But of course such kinds of works need huge production and lots of money so all depends on the financial issues.

Do you think that the actors must have a leading role in the current political situation in Egypt?
All the Egyptians must have a role in what’s happening now in Egypt, not only the actors but I believe that actors must have a more responsible role as every word we say counts and all must know what to say, when, and where as we are facing a true critical time where there are lots of rumors and false news everywhere. We all should unite on one thing which is Egypt’s welfare.

What do you think about dividing the actors into pro and against, and how that affects our beloved country Egypt?
I am totally against dividing and splitting people and calling each group with some strange names as liberals, felol, Muslims, and Christians. We were always one nation and only Egyptians. No difference between a Christian and a Muslim. We must keep our country as it was before, united and get back to the real Egypt. Al Azhar has a very important role in these issues and to me Al Azhar is the only organization responsible for Islamic supplication. Al Azhar is a great organization and all people around the world highly respect it. So people are all the same, we can’t judge anyone whether he is an actor or whatever because of his thoughts or beliefs. If he is not violent and didn’t contribute in any violence, so he is totally free about his beliefs.

Of course the current political situation is affecting the cinema industry and the percentage of the viewers, do you think that the cinema industry should stop or what should we do?
The cinema industry is so costly and need lots of money to produce a respectable movie that respects the audiences and these are the kinds of movies that I am always keen to work at. So I am totally against the stop of the industry but also not with taking huge risks nowadays, for example el masl7a movie was a risk and the production was so high but thanks God it achieved a huge success, so we must work but with calculated steps. We must not stop working for the sake of the thousands of people who work in this industry and gain their money to live from this industry. For me I would like to make two films a year but due to the current issues we can make it one but a good, respectable one. I care about the quality of movie and not the quantity; I promise my audiences that I will always be keen and cautious about what I present. I will always try never to let them down. I noticed lately that there were many movies not up to the standard of our cinema and the production and directing were so weak, we as movie ma ers don’t want such movies to be back as such movies make the people hate cinema industry and not willing to go out to watch a movie. I know that the producer must gain money and of course I am not against that but I am against making a bad movie for the sake of gaining money. Why don’t we make both and that’s what I am trying to do in my movies and thanks God most of my movies achieved very high viewership rates and were good movies in terms of story, techniques, cinematography, directing, and acting.

What is the red line you will not tolerate or allow people to cross?
My private life and family, I like to lead a normal life away from work.

Any marriage plans?
I really hope so and wish to make a family and be a father, YA RAB.

One last word;
I am so optimistic about the future and quite sure that Egypt will be better and that God is protecting our country.
