Once again Cairo celebrated the fine art of Cinema during its annual Cairo International Film Festival welcoming an array of international stars and amongst them a favorite couple: Oscar winning star Goldie Hawn and Golden Globe Kurt Russell proving once again that age is but a number and that love can still flourish after a partnership of 30 years. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Al Muttahed Co. are pleased to announce the opening of three towers of the ‘all suites’ eight tower Le Méridien hotel in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The additional five towers are expected to open by the end of 2009. A total of four towers will be an ‘all suites’ hotel and the remaining four towers will be sold as vacation ownership by the owning company Al Muttahed.

The Asian Diplomats Wives association (ADWA) chose to held their annual bazaar in the Nile Hilton’s gardens on Saturday 1st of November 2008. The Asian Embassies sold a variety of their ethnic foods, toys, cosmetics, accessories etc at their countries stands; more than 1000 persons visited the bazaar. For the fifteenth consecutive and last year, the European Embassies held their annual Christmas Charity Bazaar organized as usual by the Nile Hilton in the tennis courts and gardens of the hotel. Twenty-six European countries participated in the bazaar. Ambassadors and their spouses presented ethnic Christmas goods of their countries at their beautifully decorated stands. The Syrian Catholic Charity Society held recently its annual charity Ball at the legendary Semiramis Intercontinental. The evening was attended by many distinguished guests and Caireen celebrities amongst them H.E. Amr Moussa, Secretary General Arab Leauge, who was welcomed upon arrival by Roger Chakkal, president of Catholic Charity Society and Juergen Baumhoff, General Manager of the Semiramis Intercontinental. Highlights of the event were Lebanese singer Yuri Marakdi and famous renowned Italian singer Umberto Smaila who swept the crowds of their feet in Cairo’s foremost ballroom: Cleopatra.
