ERIN Brown

Life has had many challenges and stresses for me, I have learnt all of life’s lessons the hard way, but this has made me strong in spirit and character. So I can say with confidence that yes, I am happy. I have two wonderful children, a man that loves me, my faith, a spiritual connection with the land I live on and a sense of belonging. I have the occasional bad day and whinge, but I am human, it happens, I accept it, deal with it the best I can, then move on. I always try to find that inner peace, even during the most difficult times, I only need to go sit in the wild jungle of native plants in my front garden, listen to the birds, watch the penny lizards sun themselves or spend time with my family and I am happy. My Motto : Remember to Breathe!

I am a person who is just happy with the simple things in life. I feel happy when I find myself amid a huge gathering of friends that has not happened in a long time, if I travel to somewhere new, when I spend quality time with family and friends, when I work hard for something and I achieve it and when I help someone who needs my help and support and my involvement makes a difference in their lives.
Also I am happy when I am surprised in a good way for instance; switching the TV channels and suddenly finding my favorite movie or sitcom, or listening to the radio and out of the blue a familiar song that brings back good memories is playing. Some other times I find ways to make myself happy. Going on a shopping spree always makes me happy and I usually come back from my shopping trip with a huge smile on my face. Exercising gives a certain energy boost and mood lifting. Having a nice quiet dinner with friends and enjoying interesting conversations make me happy as well. In my opinion, life is too short and also very stressful. We need to constantly find ways to make us happy.

A song... music is definitely my cure; I enjoy listening to music, singing while driving and simply going to my happy place. After a long day of stolen happy music moments, I enjoy being a couch potato watching a movie with a big bar of my favorite biscuit chocolate bar and finally writing :) I love writing and every time I type words on my keyboard a smile simply jumps onto my face :) I believe happiness is simple, and it's the simple things that make us happy :)

Sometime ago I had a successful career, earned more money than I needed, was determined and careerorientated, worked long days and extended nights. But, truth be told - I was not satisfied...

Regardless of the fact that I currently earn much less, I’m sincerely focused on growing with DG Magazine by using the knowledge, understanding and experience I gained in the past. In all honesty, I now have time to do more… Life is both serene and balanced and I discovered true happiness.

I embrace my husband day after day – I have time to play with my two boys, exercise and eat well. I strive to give myself a challenge - to learn or experience new things often.

I've recently discovered that a good deed or random act of kindness can benefit me as much as the person I do it for. I really have no intention on seeming angelic or saintly, but it’s very true… Somebody once told me "It is not the position in which you stand, but the direction in which you look".

Finding true happiness is easier said than done. There are many ups and downs in life and it is how we react and deal with these on a day to day basis that shows our true colors - if I continue to follow my heart, preserve my loving family, avoid introspection, truly appreciate everything I have, as opposed to wishing I had more, live for the moment and most importantly – be part of something bigger than myself, I genuinely believe that I’ll have happiness made…

Ahhh yes…! I'd still fancy that extravagant chalet on the Northern Coast where I can sunbath, BBQ and invite friends, but wouldn't life be dull if all our dreams were fulfilled?

You can never really pinpoint something as the sole reason for happiness and for me especially - I have to say that even the little things can make my heart dance with joy. Happiness is about what is comforting as much as it is about what is exciting. It ranges from being surrounded by the people I love, to drinking a bowl of my favorite soup, and whatever else is in between. I guess I’m happiest when I’m content in knowing that life can never be better, that everything is in its place and that God is watching over me and making sure I don’t fall in harm’s way. I’m also happiest when I realize that I managed to bring happiness to the people around me. I think to put a true sincere smile on someone else’s face is truly one of the most rewarding things that you can experience.
