Ideas for saving

Due to the current events of the revolution, many businesses have been affected, in different ways, the Tourism sector has suffered tremendously to the fact that many countries have put travel advisory warning to Egypt. In addition many factories have been shut down due to the curfews, instability in short the general conditions of instability in the country. I know that many people have been affected financially, by salary cuts, profit shares, layoffs etc… due to these circumstances. That is why I wanted to share some ideas on saving up now, in order to survive these harsh circumstances and get-out safely with a better Egypt for all Egyptians.

• Cook at home: home cooking is much more healthier and tastier than take outs. This way you would use your supplies at home and save up those pounds you pay for take away and delivery. I am sure that many of us have cans of food that we just throw away because we don’t monitor the expiration dates.

• Make a list before you go shopping: by making a list of your grocery needs you will avoid buying extras which you don’t require or buying doubles. You can also buy in bulks when there are good offers or discounts. By planning your grocery trip you will avoid going back and forth every day and this way you will save even your car gas.

• Make your own coffee at home: instead of buying your coffee on your way to work, buy a coffee mug that will keep your coffee warm. Don’t under estimate the amount that you may save from just making your coffee at home.

• Consider making your own lunch bags.

• Watch out for your coins: since the pound has been turned into a coin, many of us just throw the pounds in our purse and we don’t really pay attention to it. In these tough times, it is advisable to have a coin wallet. I am sure it will add up to a huge amount of cash.

• Pay your bills on time: if you pay your bills on time especially your credit cards you will avoid any penalties.

• Instead of buying books borrow from the library or from your friends: this will save you a lot of money.

• Avoid impulse buying: many people tend to buy things that are un-necessary, think before you buy anything.

• Regulate your electric use: if you are not using electric appliances unplug them. Apparently, unplugging the TV/ receiver or DVD instead of just switching it off can save a lot of electricity. When not in a room, switch off the lights. Consider buying energy-saving bulbs which will save a lot.

• Count your money: most people don’t know how much they have in their wallets, by counting your money you will know how much you spend every day.

• Make an expenses diary: every day write how much you spent and which areas you over spent.

• Plan gift buying ahead of time. You will often find suitable gifts at lower prices or on sale.

I hope these ideas will be useful for everyone. Those are just simple and quick ideas that may be implemented easily and painlessly. I am sure that Egypt will prosper soon but at the same time Egypt needs us all to work hard and think wisely for a better future…
