Pirates innovate to lead “With great power, comes great responsibility.”

These words may be from The Spiderman Movie, but they are indeed true. In 2009, in Faculty of Engineering – AinShams University, two students thought of how they can make a change in their reality and help in creating a better tomorrow for Egypt. They wanted to emphasize on the idea that true leaders must be innovators and that a true leader is part of the team unlike the regular idea of a boss. The idea started developing when they decided to found a student activity aiming to create innovative leaders for the next generation. They used a simple slogan: “Pay It Forward” quoting from the movie. The idea in its simplest form consists of a person that has knowledge in a certain field. This person will share his knowledge (pay it forward) with some other people on one condition; that they will use this to help other people and spread the knowledge. So if one person helped three people and each one of them helped three other people, it will create a massive ripple effect that will help in spreading the knowledge. In 2009, Amr Adeeb and Ehab Maklad who were engineering students at AinShams University founded Pirates Egypt as the first student activity aiming to generate effective and creative leaders with the slogans “Pay It Forward” and “Innovate To Lead”. The name “Pirates” was chosen as a projection to what actual Pirates do which is look for a treasure. Pirates aims to look for the treasure hidden inside each and every one of us. God gave every single one of us a gift that – if nurtured properly and developed – makes us unique and help us excel in its field.

Pirates Egypt started with only two workshops for students and last year they had 13 workshops for both technical and non-technical tracks benefiting more than 250 students in different fields. The name of Pirates Egypt and their distinct purple color became a brand over the years. Pirates Egypt proved their worthiness of delivering such a great vision and contributing in a better tomorrow. This year, Pirates hope to spread the word and leave their finger print on the future of Egypt by hosting their main event with 12 workshops in more than 7 different universities. The workshops cover both technical tracks like Networking and non-technical tracks like Project Management. If you are a student and you want to have a lifetime experience and benefit from it, then you should pay them a visit during their main event.
